William (Bill) Phillips, born June 12th 1936 in Flomaton, Alabama, began his YMCA career in 1958 as a youth work secretary in Pensacola, Florida. He served in the U.S. Army 1959-1961 as a psychiatric social worker at Brooke Army Hospital, San Antonio, Texas. Upon discharge from the service he returned to the Pensacola YMCA.
